LATEST BATH STOP WAR COALITION BULLETIN 21 JULY 2008

BATH SWC WEBSITE
Don’t forget that news, announcements, recent bulletins, first class articles and links to campaigns are all on the Bath Stop War Coalition website http://www.bathstopwar.org.uk/

BATH SWC REGULAR VIGIL
This Saturday and every Saturday, outside Bath Abbey from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm, with the focus on “No Trident Replacement”, “Bring the Troops Home” and “Don’t attack Iran” (subtext “When will they ever learn????”). Make your views visible with one of our recently renewed placards or bring your own. For maximum impact they need to be like a certain Irish alcoholic beverage (not the black and white one): strong words, softly spoken.

NEXT MEETING THIS WEEK
NOT
at the Meeting House in York Street, but at the home of Diana and Nico Francis at 8 pm on Wednesday 23 July. Important: e-mail back to postmaster@bathstopwar.org.uk “Directions” if you need to know the address and how to get there. Future actions being planned then include commemoration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Days (6 and 9 August respectively).

BULLETIN ED TAKING A BREAK
I’m off with my bucket and spade until mid-August, so won’t be able to publicise the Hiroshima/Nagasaki actions through the Bulletin. Watch the website http://www.bathstopwar.org.uk/, or scan the Bath Chronicle for announcements or visit the regular Saturday peace vigil (days and times above) for further details.

MEETING AT BRLSI
Thursday 24 July at 7.30pm at Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution, 16-18 Queen Square Bath BA1 2HNL: lecture on Zimbabwe by Grahame Pinnell. He spent his childhood in Zambia & Zimbabwe, where he graduated, then worked there and elsewhere in southern Africa for many years, promoting business projects and with international relief organisations. An activist with the opposition MDC and with friends and family in Zimbabwe, he can report at first hand on current events. Using his personal experience Grahame will discuss and illustrate both the history and developments to date. Members/Students £2, Visitors £4. For more information see What’s On on the BRLSI website.

AFTER THE CARNIVAL
Smash EDO thanks all who came to the Carnival Against the Arms Trade in early July from all over England, Scotland and Wales to join the protest - a resounding success, surpassing expectations. For more information, contact smashedo@hotmail.com. Now they need money ... the 'On the Verge' tour that came to Bath and the Carnival Against the Arms Trade cost a lot to stage. Donations to the campaign can be send to “Sussex ESF” - c/o Unemployed Centre, 6 Tilbury Place Brighton BN2 OGY. Their next big demo is at EDO Wednesday 15 October, meet 12 noon, opposite Falmer Station (next to the Sussex University sign).

If you write to this address, please make sure that you write something very clear in the Subject line e.g. “Bath SWC – Request for coach details”. We get so much spam on this address (at least 50 messages a day) that I delete any message without a subject or with a general subject such as “Hello” or “Please read this”.
