CND CAMPAIGN TO REVERSE TRIDENT REPLACEMENT DECISION HAS BEGUN 20.03.2007
When a recent Populus / More 4 News poll shows that 72% of the public do not want Britain to replace Trident now, the vote for a replacement taken on on March 14th makes a mockery of our so-called democracy. This vote must be reversed. CND has organised a two pronged attack on this affront to democracy and sanity.

1. Write to Your MP Regarding the Vote on Trident Replacement.
2. No Trident Replacement Campaign Enters New Phase.

1. Write to Your MP Regarding the Vote on Trident Replacement

Click here <http://www.cnduk.org/pages/trvote.pdf> to see a list of MPs who voted against the government's plans for Trident replacement. Click here <http://www.cnduk.org/pages/votes.pdf> for a list of MPs who voted
for an amendment stating that the case for Trident replacement has not been proven.

Regardless of how your MP voted on the issue of Trident replacement, it is important that you write to her/him to follow up on the issue. The government has said that the decision is reversible - act now to make sure your MP knows this!

If your MP voted to oppose Trident replacement, please send a letter today thanking her/him for taking a principled stance on the issue. Encourage further action on this issue, emphasising that the decision is reversible. Click here <http://www.cnduk.org/pages/trlet1.doc> for a sample letter to MPs who voted against Trident replacement.

If your MP voted in favour of Trident replacement, please send another letter explaining the very strong case against a new generation of nuclear weapons. Many of the MPs who voted last week to oppose Trident replacement had never taken an anti-nuclear stance before. Your MP is not a 'lost cause.' Keep up the pressure, and we will continue to gain
more and more MPs on our side. Click here <http://www.cnduk.org/pages/trlet2.doc> for a sample letter to MPs who
voted in favour of Trident replacement.

Whichever way your MP voted on the TR issue, please raise with them the importance of the government pursuing multilateral disarmament initiatives. A crucial opportunity is coming up in May at the NPT Preparatory Committee in Vienna. Please ask your MP to press the government for details of disarmament initiatives which they will be
putting forward at this important conference.

2. No Trident Replacement Campaign Enters New Phase

With the parliamentary vote on Trident replacement now over, CND's No Trident Replacement campaign has entered a new phase. We will be working tirelessly to ensure that this dangerous, immoral decision is reversed at the earliest date.

Over the coming months we will be working with our growing list of allies in Parliament, political parties and the trade unions to build a collective voice against Trident replacement which the government cannot ignore.

We will be producing new campaigning materials for local groups, including ideas for effective local campaigning (NHS cuts, schools, etc). We will announce when these materials are ready for distribution in a future email bulletin.

We will continue to raise CND's profile, particularly with students and young people. Keep an eye out for an increased CND presence at festivals this summer.

Please continue to support CND and the No Trident Replacement campaign. Your active participation is vital - now more than ever!
